mumof4 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 if you mean the new shape gal.....then.....hmmm.....you do mean the new shape dont you? Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 if you mean the new shape gal.....then.....hmmm.....you do mean the new shape dont you? Yes Mum the new shape! :( Quote
mumof4 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 well....hmmm...i have a MKII...and i have seen the new Gal..and im sorry to say that i think they ruined it. As far as i can recall..there is only one member on here that has the new gal as a company car. We all have mixed views on the new gal..some love it..some dont...my views are purely based on cosmetic appearances and not the engine capabilities. The MkII and MKI may look like lumbering beasts..but they are better in shape than the new Gal.My opinion purely..i could go on but i wont!. Anyway....Welcome to our little madhouse and i really do hope that when it arrives, you enjoy your Gal immensley.I look forward to hearing what she will be like on the stretch!. :( :) :D Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 i think the outside style of the mk3 is much better than mk 1 and 2s :( the beast cometh Quote
mumof4 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 I disagree..it's no where near as streamlined.more box shaped..especisally the inside..i looked at the Ghia and all the over head cubbies and 4 sunroofs were just a wee bit too much plus the smooth shapes have gone and the backs of the seats are way too flimsy. Its too short aswell..ok so that is better for shorter peeps..but i dont like it..i like the height. The beast may cometh but i wouldnt get one..if i were to replace my gal..it would'nt be with the new shape one..id still go for the MKII. Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Thanks for the welcome Mum...........I will be using the galaxy as a taxi , lets hope its reliable. Will post pices when I get it. Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 its not cos its a ford galaxy then maz cos the only thing about the mk2 that is ford is the badge :) the new gal is like the focus inhouse, which if like me ,being a ford nut i think can only be a good thing :D i been in a mk3 and i really it, i think its great, cars are moving on so fast now,my gal is not even 4 years old yet.and its dated already as for our good they are, time will tell.but it would seem them mk2s have a hell of a lot of problems,2 many for my like.. still its all about what one likes i think it looks kool :D where u from larry :( Quote

As a taxi??..Neil might be very interested in your views then as he drives a MKII as a taxi. Well..the new Gal is totally Ford..so who knows.. :( :) :D Quote

Guest larryo Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 Iam from Ireland Gooner. Salesman informed me that first service is due at 20,000 miles?????????? is he correct? Also am still trying to get my head around "run flat tyres".......no spare wheel...... :( Quote

All cars have problems..and yes the MKIIs have their fair share..and im very sure the MKIII will have its problems aswell. Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 very true all cars do,and time will tell indeed in five years if the galaxy isnt still top seller, than its rubbish :( :) mind you i can remember peeps saying the same thing when the mk2s came out words like ,what have they done to the galaxy as with the cortina/sierra/escort/mondeo and the list goes on.and of course the granny(what a car)bring the sweeny back :D Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/marty31/IMG_0012.jpg The Galaxy i test drove...........it is the new shape .......................isnt it? :o Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 like the wheels and the lights in the wing mirrors(shame they dont fold in)like it m8 :o Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Cheers mate..picking it up tomorrow afternoon. :o I really would have chosen a black one , but that would have meant a 3 month wait, so its an "ink blue. Quote
El Dingo Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Thay do look nice - I test drove an S-Max, which should be similar to drive, and was impressed by the ride and quietness compared to my Mk2. I agree with Mum about the interior, especially the rear seats and seat back arrangement. I'd be worried about that as a taxi. (What area in Ireland, larryo?) Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Hi el dingo, im living in the west(mayo). I guess its all a matter of opinion, to me its gonna be a workhorse for maybe 2 years. Once it goes and stays reliable I will be happy. As regards the seats being flimsy............time will tell! :o Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 I like the new galaxy more than the old one, and I would have one over the old galaxy (MKII) - although, things like the front side quarter glass things restrict the view, and no spare wheel, are off putting. MJR Quote

That's a beautiful country - what a great job, driving around Ireland (but maybe not in the middle of winter...). Good luck with the new car - keep posting, please, and let us know what your experiences are with the new Gal. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 Galway  misread that as galaxy for a second! MJR :o Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 I sure will E D, as for great job.................try sat nite around here......... Seriously tho its a good time to be a cabbie here since the introduction of random breath testing here in Ireland. The roads are almost empty most weekend nights, only a fool would drink and drive here now. Even us cabbies are not exempt.......last sat i myself had to take one :o Lookin forward to sending some pics and my thoughts on new gal. Quote

Have got the 1.8TDCI Zetec 125PS 6 speed version. Had it about 4 weeks now & no problems. Not so sure the tyres are 'run flat' though (unless you ordered them as an option?) mine has got normal tyres & you get a Michelen tyre repair kit instead of the spare. Been to Paris in it last week fuel economy was 49.5 mpg over a 630 mile round trip, very comfy to drive even for long distance. Seats do seem a bit thin on the padding especially rear seats. Quote
Guest larryo Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 Hi Jeff, well picked up the gal about an hour ago, mine is the the base model 100ps ( though sales man got me a set of alloys on it) First impressions very quiet, plenty of low end grunt.......................very sharp brakes. Did notice slight roll on corners (still, knowing the roads here hardly surprising), very very slick gearbox. still trying to figure out the onboard puter...........all in all tho i have good vibes about this gal. Will keep you informed and post some pics tomm when its bright. Slan for now. :) Quote
